THE ANTI-VIOLENCE CENTERS IN ITALY

COMECITROVI: the map of anti-violence centers in Italy

The increased political, institutional and cultural visibility of the problems linked to violence against women and, consequently, the rise of many new groups and associations of women organized in anti-violence centers have made it necessary to create a national address book, a requirement born exactly 20 years ago.

For this purpose the Women's home so as not to be subjected to violence (Bologna) published in 1991 a guide spread nationwide Comecitrovi: guide to places against violence in Italy, republished updated in 1996 on the occasion of the first national convention of women's homes and anti-violence centers, held in Marina di Ravenna.

The third edition of the How to find you it dates back to 2000 and obtained the recognition of the cultural project “Bologna 2000 European City of Culture” which allowed us to create a first database for the research of the Centers on the website.

Today, through more advanced and refined information technologies, we have designed one interactive map that offers greater exploration possibilities and ease of updating data relating to the Centers. We have thus offered women who suffer violence, institutions and citizens a service that has also proved useful in fostering political, professional and cultural relations between us.
