Request for rectification to Mediaset: anti-violence centers always open during the pandemic

D.i.Re - Women on the Net against violence expresses dismay at what Michelle Hunziker declared last night, March 3, during the broadcast Verissimo by Silvia Toffanin, regarding the Doppia Difesa network: "We didn't stop even during Covid, when all the anti-violence centers were rightly closed", said the show girl. This is an erroneous statement, since all the anti-violence centers in the D.i.Re remained open and never stopped their activity throughout the pandemic and even those involved in emergency reception projects, 24 hours a day, continued to intervene, reaching women in hospitals, police stations or police stations to hold support interviews and offer hospitality when requested.

Furthermore, to allow all women to reach the nearest facilities in the territories, in that period D.i.Re promoted the social campaign #noicisiamo – Covid-19 emergency (https://www.direcontrolaviolenza.it/noicisiamo-emergenza-covid-19/) which was accompanied by several actions of advocacy addressed to the Government.

The demonstration of how Hunziker's statements are the result of unforgivable misinformation is contained in the numbers of Monitoring carried out by the D network.i.Re during the Covid-19 health emergency. From 2 March to 5 April 2020 the anti-violence centers D.i.Re were contacted by a total of 2.867 women, of which 806 (28%) had never contacted the network before. The increase in support requests, compared to the monthly average recorded with the latest statistical survey of 2018, equal to 1.643, it was 74,5 percent.

For this reason, in light of the obvious unfoundedness of the statements heard last night at Verissimo, the D Network.i.Re asks Mediaset to urgently correct what Hunziker reported, in order not to ignore the enormous work carried out continuously by the operators of the anti-violence centers in the difficult phase of the health emergency.
