Universities and research to give strength to the Shadow Report

Accession of the academic world
to the shadow report of women's associations for GREVIO,
the Council of Europe Expert Group on Violence Against Women,
in view of the monitoring mission of the application of the Istanbul Convention in Italy scheduled from 11 to 22 March 2019

We are teachers, researchers / bulls, experts working in the academic world.

We see the number of students in all faculties growing year after year and we are committed deconstruct, by example, teaching and research, the sexist stereotypes that still permeate Italian culture and which are at the root of gender-based violence, as the Istanbul Convention rightly states in its Preamble.

Some of us contributed to the drafting of the Shadow report of women's associations for GREVIO.

University research and teaching are essential to inform effective policies to combat violence against women and to build gender relationships based on equity and respect.

In view of the monitoring mission of the GREVIO experts appointed by the Council of Europe to verify the state of implementation of the Istanbul Convention on violence against women and domestic violence in our country, with our adhesion we want to underline the importance of the shadow report drawn up for GREVIO by women's associations.

The Shadow Report reflects the commitment in the field of associations and anti-violence centers managed by women's organizations, documents the many difficulties that still today prevent an effective fight against male violence against women, and provides essential recommendations for a real and effective application of the Istanbul Convention, ratified by Italy in 2013.

The deadline for communicating one's membership has been proposed to March 19th at 13pm.
