The mobilization continues to affirm that there can be no mediation on consensus.

On April 28th, the The European Parliament has adopted a resolution which invites Member States to align their laws on sexual violence, where based on definitions centered on force or violence, to international standards, referring to the Istanbul Convention. Among the report's requirements are: silence, lack of resistance, the absence of a "no," prior consent, past sexual conduct, or any current or previous relationship should not be interpreted as consent.

"Precisely in this vein, for months, our Network and many organizations have been opposing President Bongiorno's proposal and her latest request for mediation." declares Cristina Carelli, president D.i.Re – Donne in Rete contro la violenza. "Consent is not a technical detail and is not a matter of compromise.
The select committee has proposed mediations that all anti-violence and human rights organizations are trying to oppose.”
Carelli continues. "Consent can only be free, current, and revocable. Every mediation shifts the boundaries: from the person's freedom to choose to the need to prove something. It's a step backwards that puts the victim's responsibility back at the center, rather than the rapist's. This is unacceptable.” concludes the president.

Today, May 4th, in Rome – at 6:30 pm, gathering in Piazza Cavour – a visible and collective presence, representing all women.

Today and tomorrow, across the country: widespread initiatives to reiterate, once again, the position of the Network D.i.Re and of those who support this battle.
