Getting out of violence: the power to generate freedom for oneself, for all and everyone
Object of the competition
Violence against women is usually represented through images of women injured in the body,
with black, suffering, "victims" eyes.
A new narrative of the woman is needed, which goes beyond the logic of victimization by shifting the gaze
about change, about power as a possibility, and that it opens the way to a different symbolic and aesthetic representation.
The IO POSSO contest - Getting out of violence: the power to generate freedom for oneself, for all and everyone
invites you to produce a video which instead represents the generative capacity to transform one's life and, therefore, the force that nourishes the freedom to be oneself, in the round.
The competition intends to reward video productions that tell about cultural change, a different representation of the female, a new way of living, of acting in space, aware that "I can".
I can it must be the closing sentence of the video, the claim that catalyzes the message of freedom told.
The competition intends to encourage these new narratives and give them visibility and dissemination.
Tracks for the subject of the video
Power like possibility to do, to choose, to be oneself and oneself, power in its positive meaning must be the common thread of the subject of the video.
The language will be that of force, of the possibility of living the world starting from oneself, from one's own desire and in relationship with other women.
The invitation is to represent the life force of women and the ability to invent new pieces of life with dignity and courage, to build small or large freedoms, putting oneself on the line despite obstacles.
Male violence against women has historical and cultural origins that affect the quality of the relationship between the sexes, in an asymmetry between men and women in the social and symbolic order. Giving voice to the strength of women who build a new existence for oneself, for one's sons and daughters, for the community in which they live, it means more freedom for everyone and everyone. It means reversing the perspective: from the negativity of experience to positivity of a process that transforms constraints and limitations into resources and strengths for regain the freedom offended and violated by violence.
"... But when you have nothing but risk, you cannot fear anything, and what you want then returns to present itself: we feel in that instant that it reaches us in all purity and legitimacy, since only what we are not I could stop loving, not even loving him, it belongs to us. "
Maria Zambrano, Towards a knowledge of the soul (1996)
“In each of us lives a deposit of pure gold to be delivered. It shines and it attracts us like a force. We want to make it emerge and shape it in words that communicate ".
Chiara Zamboni, Female authority, male authority in philosophical work (1989)
