The national association D.i.Re Women on the Net against violence signs the press release of the International House of Women, and will support every initiative so that the Municipality of Rome continues to guarantee the existence of a place that is the historical memory of the women's movement and for 30 years a laboratory of political elaboration of the women's movement.

The International Women's House, heritage of the city of Rome and a resource for all women, is today at risk of eviction by the Municipality.
For over thirty years this place, unique in Europe, has been a point of reference for Italian and foreign women and for international feminism. The House is appreciated and recognized by all for its capacity for self-management and for having maintained in excellent condition a public property attended annually by over 30.000 people, for being a place for offering social and cultural services, for carrying out actions to increase the skills of women. All this is the result of the voluntary work and daily and free commitment of hundreds of women and dozens of associations.
For decades this place has been saved, preserved, restored, made alive and frequented, removed from the degradation which many public goods in our city have encountered. Even the House is now in danger of closure which many associations and social realities in Rome have encountered.
The debt attributed to us by the Administration does not take into account the value of the services that are offered. In this sense, the International Women's House, since 2013, has begun an interview with the Municipality of Rome which, after verifying the quality of the services, proposed an evaluation of their economic value in the order of € 700.000 per year.
With this council the House had started a discussion to solve the debt problem and the definition of a truly sustainable rent, safeguarding and relaunching the value of the House and its future in the service of citizenship. For this reason, the letter requesting immediate reimbursement, failing which “we will proceed with the activation, without further communication, of both the compulsory procedure; in civil proceedings, for the recovery of the credit, and of the requisition procedure of the property under the self-protection regime "came completely unexpected.
The International Women's House responded to the communication from the Municipality urgently asking the Mayor and the competent Councilors to reopen the conversation and suspend the peremptory payment deadline.
The International Women's House is very grateful for the solidarity received from so many women and men, associations and institutions. These testimonies confirm the value and appreciation that Casa enjoys not only in the city of Rome but throughout the country.
