Although reports of women killed or massacred by their husbands are featured in local and national newspapers, the Region is thinking of cutting funds to finance the fight against violence against women.

The Veneto Region has decided that, despite the widespread diffusion of the phenomenon concerning violence against women, the commitment to fight and prevent violence against women does not deserve a prominent place in regional policies, thinking of eliminating funding planned for 2015, of 400.000 euros, to the Anti-violence Centers of the Veneto.

Thus the women victims of violence are the losers and at the same time the commitment of all those workers who work daily in the Anti-violence Centers of the Veneto is devalued so that women (and their minor children) are not left alone and can recover their lives.

The council with the excuse of "rationalizing regional spending" is cutting a lot of funding dedicated to the most vulnerable people and social categories that most need structural support from the institutions.

Funding that should never be questioned, indeed should be the basis of any political decision that affects citizens. With policies of cutting and zeroing of funds, not only do we increase the risk of marginalization and social exclusion, but we pretend that such problems do not exist in our territory.

Only with far-sighted and inclusive policies could we address the phenomenon of violence against women no longer as an emergency but as a structural element of society.

For this we ask that the regional law n. 5/2013 REGIONAL INTERVENTIONS TO PREVENT AND FIGHT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN is funded with certain and scheduled funding.

From today we will launch the Awareness Campaign Zaia cuts our wings and the online petition on change.org:
Do not cut the funds earmarked for combating violence against women
