D.i.Re signs the Charter of Intent with the Kering company with which he carried out a project in 2013, which ended on September 30th, which included training sessions on the subject of violence against women, aimed at employees of the Gucci company.

Four trainings were carried out: two in Florence, one in Rome and one in Milan and were carried out by professionals, belonging to anti-violence centers, experts in the issue of gender-based violence. Such was the satisfaction of the training sessions that the Kering company decided to extend the training carried out by D.i.Re to the other companies of the group.

KERING PROTOCOL -  D.i.Re
Raise awareness among Kering employees in Italy

The Kering Foundation is committed to the Italian association Donne in Rete against violence (D.i.Re) to prevent and combat violence against women

Following a pilot program initiated by Gucci, this commitment will also be extended to the other brands of the Kering group in Italy

Kering and the Kering Foundation have signed together with the Italian association Donne in Rete against violence (D.i.Re) a Charter with the aim of involving all Kering employees in Italy in the fight against domestic violence. François-Henri Pinault, President and CEO of Kering and President of the Kering Foundation, and Titti Carrano, President of D.i.Re, have formalized this commitment.

Thanks to this Charter, employees of the Kering brands based in Italy will be made aware of the issue of violence against women and they will be able to better understand this phenomenon that affects all social classes:

- Employees identified as "ambassadors" within the group will be trained by the Kering Foundation and the Association D.i.Re in order to be able, in case they are faced with a situation of domestic violence within their personal or professional circle, to invite the people involved to contact the Italian anti-violence centers associated with D.i.Re.

- All employees will be regularly informed about the national campaigns to combat violence against women conducted by D.i.Re.

This partnership with D.i.Re in Italy it follows the one established in France in 2010 with the National Federation of Female Solidarity (FNSF). On the strength of a positive balance, with 120 sensitized “ambassadors” employees, the Kering Foundation proposed a D.i.Re to devise a tailor-made program for its brands based in Italy.

“To be able to represent the voices of women victims of violence alongside the Kering Foundation, our employees must be our first ambassadors. This partnership with an Italian NGO is in line with the agreement successfully signed in France in 2010 with the National Federation of Female Solidarity and confirms the consistency, continuity and determination of the actions of the Kering Foundation. The signatures of these Charters in France and Italy are only the beginning, we are already thinking of expanding these initiatives to other parts of the world where Kering is present "said François-Henri Pinault, President and CEO of Kering and President of the Kering Foundation.

For the Italian association Donne in Rete against violence, this partnership represents the first alliance of its kind with a private international group, with a strong presence in Italy.

“Family violence against women represents in Italy a phenomenon that is still largely submerged even if for over twenty years, thanks to the activity of anti-violence centers, social laboratories for cultural change, the problem has come to light. The anti-violence centers that welcome an average of 14.000 women every year have collected data and analyzed the causes and characteristics of the phenomenon. Thanks to their activity, the Italian company is more sensitive to the problem but there is still a lot to do. It is necessary to intervene on the cultural level. Projects like the one we have signed with the Kering Foundation are important to raise awareness on the problem of violence against women also with experimental projects. "
Titti Carrano, president D.i.Re

Gucci, pilot brand
Gucci played a central role prior to the signing of this partnership. In 2012, following the reading of the results obtained from the Charter signed in France, Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci and member of the Board of Directors of the Kering Foundation proposed to extend this initiative to Gucci in Italy.

After sharing the experience with FNSF and participating in a training session for trainers, D.i.Re and the Kering Foundation have set up a pilot program at Gucci. Since May 2013, 4 awareness-raising courses have already been carried out in Florence, Milan, Rome with 85 employees involved.
Thanks to the involvement of other brands of the Kering group, the Charter will be shared nationwide, to more than 6.000 employees.

“I am honored that Gucci was the pilot company of this project in Italy. The phenomenon of violence against women is transversal, it transcends any difference of nationality, culture, religion, social class. It is important to act in different ways, times and with different means to try to stem the problem. Even just teaching how to help women, friends, colleagues in difficulty is an important step in defeating a taboo, in becoming aware and trying to overcome this enormous problem " said Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci and member of the Board of Directors of the Kering Foundation.

Violence against women: a taboo subject also in Italy
In 2007, Istat published a research on the mistreatment of women, inside and outside the family, noting that 6.743.000 women aged 16 to 70 were estimated at 31,9, equal to 5% of Italians in that bracket. of age; 23,7 million women have been subjected to sexual violence (3.961.000%), 18,8 physical violence (1%). About 4,8 million women have been raped or attempted rapes (XNUMX%) victims of family violence. The data was taken from Rashida Manjoo Special Rapporteur of the UN on the correct application of the Cedaw convention, in Italy.

In 2012, 120 women were victims of femicide in Italy: the data collected for some years reveals that a woman is killed every three days.

In June, Italy ratified the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Thanks to the signing of the Convention, Italy has undertaken to work to improve the legal instruments for the protection of women victims of violence, to support anti-violence centers, to correctly apply the laws and above all to work on the level of cultural change with projects of prevention and awareness. It is above all important to work with the new generations, in schools and universities to look at the phenomenon of violence against women with different eyes and to recognize it as a serious violation of human rights.
