D.i.Re – Donne in Rete contro la violenza takes note of the umpteenth condemnation for Italy in a case of domestic violence by the ECHR (Convention on Human Rights)

This time, Article 3 of the Convention on Human Rights is being violated: “No one shall be subjected to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

"It is disheartening to see that the system's shortcomings continue to cause harm.” – declares Antonella Veltri, president D.i.Re - Women on the Net against violence.

This recent conviction It was issued out of inertia: in recognizing violence, sanctioning it and stopping it. Will anyone apologize to this woman? What do the representatives of the institutions that have not protected her in any way plan to do?

Anti-violence centers of the D Network.i.Kings welcome thousands of women every year and, when we read that the risk is the connivance of the State with the abuser, we know well what the ECHR is talking about.

The appeal was filed by the woman who had suffered the violence, Patrizia Pagliarone. The case that was the subject of the sentence had a fair amount of resonance, given that it involved Andrea Buscemi, a candidate with the Lega and appointed councilor in the Municipality of Pisa just as he was on trial for stalking. The activists of the Casa delle Donne of Pisa organized demonstrations, sit-ins, and also launched a petition to revoke the office of the councilor (who was later dismissed by the mayor). These protests led to the complaint of the president of the Casa delle Donne, in a clumsy attempt to silence those who highlight violence, rather than stop those who carry it out.

"Either things change radically, with an action and training systems for justice workers to recognize violence against women and the risks associated with it, or we will have to get used to being among the countries that collect ECHR convictions for the inability to see violence against women in the judicial processes that deal with it.”Concludes Veltri.
