In April 2020 the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women has launched a global appeal per to comment on the rise in violence against women during the COVID-19 crisis.
D.i.Re – Donne in rete contro la violenza as a member of the EuroMed Rights working group Gender and Justice, a network of Euro-Mediterranean associations created for the defense of human rights, has decided to participate together with other countries close to Italy in a joint data and information survey in order to support and strengthen each of the national relations.
Specifically together with D.i.re participated:
- Jordan - Mizan Law Group for Human Rights
- Jordan - Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) Jordan
- Morocco - Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM)
- Morocco - Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH)
- Tunisia - Association Beity
Although reality at the moment looks a bit bleak on both sides of the Mediterranean, these remarks will inform part of the report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women to the UN General Assembly in October and EuroMed Rights hopes this will serve as a wake-up call for governments to take concrete measures to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
