In a simplistic and traditionalist view, there would be specific gender characteristics (female, and in a different way also male) attributable to every single individual of that gender. These are attributions linked to clichés that do not correspond to reality. For example, for man: sense of responsibility, spirit of initiative, courage, strength; and for the woman instead: irrationality, self-preservation instinct, fear, weakness… Gender stereotypes prevent us from distinguishing the single person and her characteristics from what is believed to be her gender characteristics. These are generalizations that have long influenced women's aspirations and behaviors towards women. By caging individuality, they limit the freedom of action and expression in all its forms, even going so far as to provide justification for psychological violence and mistreatment.
